AbracaDrupal was created in 2009 to respond to a desire for Drupal knowledge on the part of web designers in the Portland, Oregon area. Basically, it goes like this:

The need for Drupal

If you're a web designer, chances are your clients want dynamic websites with custom functionality, which is why you need to learn Drupal.

Where to start?

If you're wanting to learn Drupal, there is a TON of information out there.  Unfortunately, every line of it seems to assume that you already know PHP, MySQL, and almost everything else about Drupal except what that line addresses. Drupal beginners often find themselves wondering, "Where is page 1?!"

All the other stuff

Learning PHP and MySQL by themselves is even more frustrating, because aside from the bit about not knowing where to start, it makes it harder to effectively learn anything when you have no place to use what you're reading about.

AbracaDrupal's goal is to condense the most important bits of the confusing mass of information and documentation on PHP, MySQL, and Drupal into a simple sequence of ideas - starting with the very first idea and building up from there - and to present those ideas within a Drupal framework.
